InfoGovANZ MeetUp: Information Risk, Reporting and Assurance – What Management and Boards Need to Know

Policies, committees and assigned responsibilities do not by themselves demonstrate that Information Governance is effective. Management and governing bodies need reliable evidence about information value, risk, control effectiveness, dependencies, incidents and emerging issues.

The final MeetUp in our Enterprise Information Governance in Practice series will examine how organisations move from governance structures to meaningful measurement, reporting, review and assurance.

Drawing on the InfoGovANZ Enterprise Information Governance Framework, we will discuss:

• identifying and integrating information risk with Enterprise Risk Management;
• what information-related matters should be visible to executives, risk committees and governing bodies;
• developing useful measures and reporting on information value, quality, lifecycle, risk and control effectiveness;
• connecting Information Governance reporting with cyber security, privacy, records, data, supplier and AI risks;
• distinguishing operational monitoring, management review, specialist review, control testing and internal audit;
• determining what evidence provides confidence that controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively;
• reporting significant deficiencies, incidents, accepted risks and overdue remediation; and
• building continuous improvement into the Information Governance system.

The session will also consider a fundamental governance question: what should management, risk committees and boards or governing authorities be able to see and ask in order to determine whether the organisation is governing its information effectively?
