The UK Government has released a guide to support organisations to better understand how AI assurance techniques can be used to ensure the safe and responsible development and deployment of AI systems. As the guide explains this requires ‘a multi-disciplinary and socio-technical approach to ensure that human values and ethical considerations are built-in throughout the AI development lifecycle.’ This guidance aims to provide an accessible introduction to both assurance mechanisms and global technical standards including ISO standards, to help industry and regulators better understand how to build and deploy responsible AI systems. It also helpfully provides guidance for organisations seeking to demonstrate: good internal processes around AI, understanding of the potential risks of AI systems being purchased, and making sure AI systems that are being built or purchased comply with existing privacy regulations.
