MeetUp: From Fragmented Information Management to Enterprise Information Governance

Information is fundamental to organisational operations, decision-making, compliance, resilience, innovation and increasingly AI. Yet responsibility for information is often divided across records and information management, data governance, privacy, cyber security, legal, risk, technology, AI governance and business functions.

The first MeetUp in our Enterprise Information Governance in Practice series will examine how organisations can move beyond fragmented or discipline-specific approaches and establish Information Governance as an enterprise governance discipline.

Drawing on the new InfoGovANZ Enterprise Information Governance Framework, we will discuss:

• why organisations need an enterprise coordinating mechanism for information;
• what it means to govern information as an organisational asset;
• how Enterprise Information Governance connects records, data, privacy, cyber security, legal, risk, technology and AI governance without replacing specialist responsibilities;
• the role of governing-body oversight and accountable executive leadership;
• establishing an effective cross-functional Information Governance Committee;
• creating a clear enterprise reporting and escalation pathway; and
• how organisations can apply the Framework proportionately according to their size, complexity and risk.

The session will include practical discussion of what effective enterprise Information Governance looks like, and the challenges organisations encounter when moving from separate information initiatives to a coordinated governance system.
